Pennsylvania Treasurer Stacy Garrity is running for governor against Democratic incumbent Governor Josh Shapiro. State senator Doug Mastriano was upset that the GOP and Donald Trump endorsed her and started a write-in campaign. Mastriano drops out of the race but a group of supporters are organizing a grassroots campaign to get him on the ballot this May.

On multiple occasions, Stacy Garrity has echoed unfounded claims that the 2020 presidential election, in which Democrat Joe Biden defeated Republican Donald Trump, was stolen. During a 2022 Trump rally in Greensburg, PA where she was invited on stage by Trump and said: “We know that he won.”. She an election denier” aligned with state Senator Doug Mastriano, Shapiro’s previous challenger. Doug Mastriano ad's repeatedly claimed that there was rampant fraud during the 2020 election.

Before taking office as Pennsylvania treasurer in January 2021, Stacy Garrity served in senior positions at a defense contractor, where a significant part of her last role focused heavily on influencing public policy tied to military manufacturing and global trade, an activity commonly known as “lobbying.” She has publicly taken credit for successfully moving legislation forward and has met with legislators and otherwise pushed her company’s interests with government officials. And yet, she never registered as a lobbyist.

Garrity is one of Israel’s biggest supporters among statewide officials in Pennsylvania, and has put her money where her mouth is. Following the Oct. 7, 2023 Hamas attack against Israel, state Treasurer Stacy Garrity campaigned at a gala hosted by a firm and invested millions in Israel bonds in her official state role. She said it was a “smart, dependable investment with a proven track record”. Richard Painter, a former White House ethics counsel for President George W. Bush who has also worked in securities law, said “It gives the impression that investment decisions are made for political reasons.”.

Stacy Garrity deleted a social media post featuring a photograph of herself with Robert F. Kennedy Jr. following a "MAHA" (Make America Healthy Again) rally in Harrisburg in January 2026. The anti-vaccine base loves RFK Jr but the rest of us prefer to be vaccinated from preventable illnesses. She thought she could hide the past but the news media sees and reports what candidates post. This photo alone could repel a lot of voters.

In 2022, Garrity sold anti-abortion merchandise on her campaign website — “LIFE WON” bumper stickers, “Born to be Pro-Life” onesies, “DEFUND PLANNED PARENTHOOD” T-shirts. Adam Hosey, chief of staff of Planned Parenthood Pennsylvania Advocates, calling Garrity’s abortion stance “absolutely disqualifying”. She had recently been hiding this unpopular view though she hasn't changed her view. People are still protesting the Republicans for defunding Planned Parenthood.

While serving as attorney general, Shapiro sued Glenn O. Hawbaker, a Centre County contractor, for committing the largest act of wage theft in US history. Now, owners and family members associated with the company are backing Shapiro’s gubernatorial opponent, Pennsylvania Treasurer Stacy Garrity. Garrity has some mega money MAGA donors but Governor Josh Shapiro outraised Stacy Garrity 10-1 in latest fundraising round.

Stacy Garrity's MAGA views are not popular, she has far less campaign funds and she's running against a popular incumbent. She cannot demand money from Trump's donors without aligning with Trump but she cannot earn voters by supporting Trump's policies. It's no wonder the GOP backed a woman set up for failure rather than have a man lose to Shapiro and hear people blame Trump for the loss. We've seen this play before. She should have known better.
