Conflating my concerns about AI with deep fakes.
Dear Ryan -
First, thanks for voting for Epstein transparency. Second, thanks for your response on AI. Third, thanks for reminding me that restrictions on State AI regulation were not included in the budget reconciliation package.
Understand AI is kinda a nebulous term used to describe a range of technology and use cases. I was aware of your previous actions on deep fakes in Pennsylvania and was happy to hear about your co-sponsorship of H.R. 633.
The legislation is a bit at odds with the decline in Federal law enforcement on things like human trafficking and drug interdiction to focus on deporting people with traffic tickets. (Scary movie music plays for traffic tickets.) Support H.R. 633 but believe it focuses on the wrong end of the deep fake supply chain and would like legislators to get more creative about legislation that focuses more on restricting generation of deep fake non-consensual sexual content or more broadly on copyright and privacy.
That being said, other than addressing States' rights to regulate AI, your response in no way addressed the ideas raised in my letter to you about AI which was mainly focused on rapacious data center development that is already warping the electricity marketplace and increasing cost on consumers who have already paid for the "wires" and generation development over time. The net result is lower affordability for people and subsidies for the tech-bros.
Once again your stock line about feedback on specific legislation seems trite. This year's congressional output is at a historic low. Hopefully that is frustrating you.
Cordially,
John
