Always a sad day when labor unions organize a peaceful protest including union members and the broader community. Based on the video, the protest seemed to include people of all ages being vocal but not violent. Have seen it described in sensational terms as a riot. Other video shows young children being treated for exposure to tear gas. That is something the Senate can and should investigate.

Dear Dave -

Thanks for your February 1 letter. Agree, name calling is counter productive. Your response is out of step with reality and facts. It insults the intelligence of citizens.

Your statistics come directly from the department that needs to be investigated. As a quantitative person, the vapid 'promo' statistics from DHS should embarrass you. The way you copied and pasted them from a DHS press release from Patrica McLaughlin is not professional-grade or world-class oversight.

You are correct the border patrol has plenty of criminal experience. Since 2005, every 26 to 36 hours a CBP agent has been arrested totaling at least 4,913. This is roughly the size of the Philadelphia police department. On a per capita basis, it appears the crime rate for CBP agents and offices was higher than that of undocumented immigrants. Congress has kicked this can down the road long enough. DHS, ICE, and CBP need to be broken up and reorganized functionally. Noem and Lewandowski and McLaughlin need to go away.

Look forward to the Senate establishing an investigative committee about the violent enforcement by ICE and CBP and the lying vilification of victims by DHS leadership and their spokespeople.

The political machinations of FBI and DOJ do not allow an impartial look at this matter.

Sincerely,

John
