Brave person stands up to immigration enforcement efforts that violate the 4th amendment.

4 men who looked like soldiers suddenly jumped out of a car and surrounded me . They told me they needed to verify whether I was a citizen. I was scared. I was devastated. I never imagined that something like this could happen to me in the United States.

Nimco Omar calmly explains to masked federal immigration agents that she is a citizen and is not required to produce id. In this part of the video she recorded, an agent scans her face despite her objections and uses facial id software to confirm she is a citizen. You can see her full video here.

It is hard to say anything that Nimco hasn't already said better than I can.

I want to sincerely thank the four young women who were standing nearby and stepped forward to be present—to witness what was happening and to help protect someone in that moment. Your courage matters.
As a community member who grew up here, who built a life here, and who calls Minnesota home, I want to be clear: this is not acceptable. This is not something we should ever normalize. This is not what the United States of America is supposed to look like.
  1. Stopping people without probable cause who look 'foreign' is not acceptable.
  2. Scanning and capturing citizen's biometric information without consent is not acceptable.
  3. Jumping out of cars, wearing face masks, not identifying yourself, and threatening to detain a citizen if they do not present papers is not acceptable.
  4. A SecDHS who willfully ignores the constitution is not acceptable.

Fourth Amendment
